Hemkund sahib is a pilgrimage site or a holy place of Sikhs located in Chamoli district of Uttrakhand state in India. Hemkund sahib is also known as Gurudwara Shri Hemkunt Sahib Ji and is devoted to the tenth Sikh Guru “Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji”. Hemkund sahib is star shaped and is one of the highest Gurudwara situated in Himalaya Mountains. This place is famous for its scenic beauty, beautiful lake and architecture too.

Hemkund sahib was known as “Lokpal”. This beautiful and distinctive Sikh Shrine was discovered as well as verified by Sant Sohan Singh and Bhai Modam Singh. This place is associated with the tenth Guru of Sikhs “Guru Gobind Singh Ji”. This place is also mentioned in the autobiography of tenth guru of Sikhs. Sant Sohan Singh was the first and foremost person, who finds the actual location of the Gurudwara. He met Bhai Vir Singh and tries to convince him that he has found the exact location of Hemkund Sahib. Finally, with the collective support and true efforts of all Sikh pioneers, Gurudwara got established by them at the spot location.

There is a Hemkunt Trust of 7 persons which look for all the facilities and requirements of “Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib Ji”. Trust has also established other Gurudwara all along the path towards it. Trust also provides food and lodging facility to the pilgrims travelling to Hemkund Sahib.

This place is blessed with beauty as well as sacred merits. This place gives peace and joy to the pilgrims, who visit the place with hope and full faith on God.

How to Reach Hemkund Sahib

Hemkund sahib is about 6 kms away from Gobind Dham and is to be covered only with foot. This place is 19 kms away from Gobind Ghat and is to cover by foot. From Rishikesh the distance to Hemkund Sahib is about 294 Kms.

When to Visit Hemkund Sahib

Best time to visit Hemkund Sahib is summers, June to September are the best months. In summer traveler can enjoy the magnificent scenic beauty as well as splendid lake. Hemkund Sahib Opening Date 2019

The holy place of Sikh religion ‘Hemkund Sahib’ will open on 25 May at 12:00 noon for this year. Gurudwara committee has decided to open the holy place on 25 May 2019. The gates of Hemkunt Sahib will open with the first ardaas of chief Granthi.

Govindghat Gurudwara officials told that its been decided to open Hemkund Sahib on 25 May 2019 at 12:00 noon. Pilgrims has started enquiring about the Hemkund Sahib yatra which forecast the good yatra season. Facilities of food and lodging will be given for pilgrims on the road route between Rishikesh and Hemkund Sahib.

The Hemkund Sahib yatra will continue till 10 October 2019.
